I have also never ridden an mtb with 27.5" or 29" wheels and of course the difference between 26" and 27.5" or even 29" wouldn't be as dramatic as between 20" and 26". [Reply] 2 0 Even at 250 lbs you should be within the bike's upper capacity limit. Many of us would have a tough time differentiating between a 29" x 2.6" set up, and a 27.5+" x 2.8" with the same tire tread, on the trails. You have a great bike to enjoy a wide variety of trails, as you build your skills. FrankTuna • 3 yr. ago. Price: $1,675. Weight: 30.9 lb. (XS) Buy Now More Images. The Fuse Comp hardtail 29er has a semi-slack setup and a 130mm RockShox Recon RL fork, making it a capable and maneuverable little ride

2.6” Rekon ride impressions. When mounted to a 30 mm rim the 2.6” Rekons look considerably smaller than the 2.8” versions. There is a significant loss in volume as well as width. The

One has to run a very large 650b tire before you actually reach a measurement of 27.5in from the ground to the top of the tire. The cycling industry is pushing 650b wheels to be known as 27.5

27.5 feels "more agile" than a 29'er. This is mostly to do with the actual wheel size, and is not negated by modern geometry. 27.5 is easier to do tricks on because there's less rotating mass. This is where the "more agile" thing comes in. 29er -> faster in a straight line. I'm 5'9" and I have rigid 29 and 27.5. I don't think the industry is going to go bigger than 29". Already geo has to be a bit funky to deal with 29er requirements. Too many trade-offs to go bigger. I think the bigger change is going to be settling on wheel width (boost vs super boost, etc). 27.5 is much more maneuverable. 29" geo nowadays is so good that I don't see much reason for a 180cm+ person to get a 27.5" bike. For stability vs playfulness, geo makes a bigger difference than wheelsize anyway. In my experience carbon is just a bit lighter than aluminium and that's it. In any case I'd urge you to demo as many bikes as possible. 29 rim diameter is 622mm, 27.5 rim is 584mm, a difference in radius of 19mm. So replacing a 29 wheel with a 27.5 with same make of tire, will drop the bike ~19mm. 165mm cranks “buys back” 10mm of ground clearance. In most situations for most riders, ~10mm less ground clearance is negligible. Got my first mullet 3 weeks ago. Coming from a 29er. No 27.5” experience, went 26 > 29. Loving the mullet. I ride bike park (Whistler) and steep North Vancouver tech trails. The new bike climbs so well and climbs like a beast. Nothing but love. Going to convert my 29 EMTB to mullet this winter.
I have a professional fit and still have an OTB feeling when descending on the 27.5, the ride is much harsher on the 27.5 and getting bounced around a lot more (big wheels offer a lot of cusion), overall the 29er just feels a lot more stable. The SC Highball is an incredible bike, just a lot different then bigger wheels.
Results: The 29er, while feeling a ton faster, was exactly the same speed as the 27.5" wheeled bike. Both days I averaged 10.7 mph. I was shocked to say the least. I almost always 'felt' "fast" on the 29er and the 27.5 felt like it lumbered along. In short, the 27.5" bike felt lazy. I felt like I was piloting the 29er.
