The Sennheiser HD 650 and the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO are both very good open-back headphones for neutral listening. While the Beyerdynamic get more bass, they also sound a bit sharp and piercing. The Sennheiser have a smoother sound with less sharpness in the treble but lack bass. Compare Side-by-Side SEE OUR REVIEW.
Those Beyerdynamic sell in the $150 ranges so they are likely a low/mid entry level model. They are likely built in the orient and cables/wire isn't one of their strong areas of manufacturer. They've always had issues refining the raw materials and things like copper will quickly oxidize and corrode if the wire isn't oxygen free.
Zayt’s talent is matched only by his taste in headsets, where he uses the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro. Used typically for music production, the expensive but highly effective Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro is an odd-choice for a gaming headset, but it seems to work well for Zayt, as well as Fortnite: Battle Royale poster boy Richard “ Ninja ” Tyler
The maximum safe input voltage for the two is. DT 990 Pro 250Ω: 5.0Vrms. DT 880 Edition 600Ω: 7.75Vrms. Taking my own motherboard audio as an example, it will output a maximum of 1.22Vrms via Line out. That means that I'd need an Amp with 12dB gain for the 990 and 16dB gain for the 880 to Max them out.

Also a lot of people talk of the 80 ohms version having a surprising about of bass in comparison to the 250 ohms, as though other Beyer headphones are not this way when changing the impedance models.

I want to use the open backs for the same thing. The reason for this is mainly that I want to try the open back sound experience.

The more open and faster DT990 is my preferred headphone for general listening once EQ'd while the DT900 has some edge in EDM (bass extension) and overall saturation and nicer highs in some acoustic music. Music: HD560s. I find these to be more of a studio headphone in sound than one for enjoying music. Even with EQ there's some sharpness and
You don't need a pricey AMP. If the DAC on your MB is fine (no static noise etc), you can spend 20-30USD and get a decent amp from Fosi or Aiyima. I wouldn't suggest cutting from Headphone budget. Yeah, you could also get something like the ibasso dc05 or shanling ua1 pro for the dt 770 80 ohm. get the 80 ohm one.
