Thebike has no computer record of mileage and so if you change the gauge cluster it is back to zero. They cost approx $500 for the gauge cluster assembly. On a positive note though they are straightforward to change out. 02
Ifthere really is a problem and BMW ignores it and someone gets hurt, some lawyer somewhere will hire an engineer to investigate the design. I discovered mine was cracked only after a fill up when, like most, fuel started leaking out. The brochure for the '03 F650GS/ Dakar lists it at 4.0 gallons but I recall that one time the fuel pump
Disconnectthe battery & leave it disconnected for a while - long enough to have cup of tea & a smoke. Reconnect & try to start the bike *without* touching the throttle, it has to learn the 'throttle closed' position - that resets the brain. Symptoms you're describing are typical of a knackered battery.
